Preview: Swope Park Rangers Face Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday Night
May 27, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sporting Kansas City II News Release
The Swope Park Rangers return to action on Saturday, May 28 when the side takes on former USL champions Sacramento Republic FC at Bonney Field. Kickoff is set for 9:30 p.m. CT and the game will be available via live stream on SportingKC.com.
The Rangers enter the weekend with a 3-4-1 record following last weekend's 4-1 defeat to Rio Grande Valley FC. Two goals from Memo Rodriguez put RGV ahead before Daniel Salloi pulled a goal back with his team-leading third goal of the season. After pushing for an equalizer for the majority of the second half, SPR conceded two goals late in the game to drop a 4-1 result with additional strikes from Rob Lovejoy and Emilio Garcia.
Sacramento Republic FC sit three points ahead of SPR in the Western Conference with a 4-3-1 record in 2016. Sac Republic have not been involved in USL action since May 14, when the club earned a 2-0 win over Seattle Sounders FC 2 behind two goals from San Jose Earthquakes loanee Tommy Thompson - who claimed USL Player of the Week honors after his performance. Since that game, Sac Republic have squared off with Liverpool FC Under-21s twice, winning 2-1 last Saturday before playing to a 2-2 tie on Wednesday.
SPR have posted a 1-3-1 record away from home this season, while Sac Republic are 2-2-0 at Bonney Field in 2016. Saturday's game marks the only meeting between the two sides in the 2016 regular season, and will be the only time the Rangers face a former USL champion this season.
