May 27, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Sacramento Republic FC (4-3-1, 13 pts) return to USL action when they take on Swope Park Rangers KC (3-4-1, 10 pts) on Saturday, May 28. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. PDT at Bonney Field. Gates open at 6 p.m. The match is Bike and Beers Night presented by Heineken. Tickets to the match may be purchased at Ticketmaster.com.
This will be the first meeting all time between the two clubs. The Swope Park Rangers are currently in their first season in the USL. They are Sporting Kansas City's (MLS) USL club.
Republic FC enter the match undefeated in the month of May after playing three straight non-USL matches. Republic FC beat CD Aguiluchos USA 5-0 in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Second Round match on Wednesday, May 18. They followed up their Open Cup victory with a 2-1 victory over Liverpool Football Club U21s at Bonney Field on Saturday, May 21 and then a 2-2 draw against Liverpool FC U21s on May 25 in Reno, Nev.
Newly signed midfielder Daniel Trickett-Smith joined Republic FC in time to face his former team, Liverpool FC U21s, in both the May 21 and May 25 matches. Trickett-Smith was impressive in his first two matches playing 106 minutes against his old club, scoring a goal and taking six shots, four of which were on goal. Trickett-Smith could make his USL debut on Saturday.
Forward Harry Williams also played well against Liverpool FC U21s. Williams played 74 minutes against Liverpool FC U21s, recording the assist on Agustin Cazarez' 30th minute goal on May 21 and then scored the match-tying goal in the 90th minute on May 25. Williams has one goal on the USL season, scoring the second goal in a 2-0 victory over LA Galaxy II on May 7.
Republic FC will be without defender Emrah Klimenta who will continue his international duty with the Montenegro National Team. Klimenta will break a streak of 18 straight USL starts by missing the match against the Rangers. He is the all-time leader in USL minutes in Republic FC history, having played 5,183 minutes in three seasons with Republic FC.
The Rangers come into the match after falling 4-1 to Rio Grande Valley FC on May 21. This will be the sixth road match for the Rangers to start the season. The Rangers are 1-3-1 on the road this season compared to 2-1-0 at home.
Forwards Dane Kelly and Kris Tyrpak as well as defenders Jacob VanCompernolle and Christian Duke were just some of the many USL veterans that joined the Rangers this season as they built their inaugural roster.
Kelly is the all-time leading goal scorer in USL history scoring 42 goals in his time in USL. He has a goal in two appearances with the Rangers this season. Tyrpak was an important piece for the Austin Aztex last season scoring nine goals while adding two assists. Tyrpak has a goal and an assist this season.
VanCompernolle and Duke both came over from Oklahoma City Energy FC, where they played last season. VanCompernolle was one of five Energy FC players that played over 2,000 minutes last season. Duke played 1,506 minutes last season, recording four assists from his defensive position.
Joining the veterans on the Rangers are many young players, including forward Daniel Salloi, a 19-year-old Homegrown Player signing by Sporting Kansas City. He has three goals and three assists in just 308 minutes this season.
The match is Bikes and Beer Night presented by Heineken. Fans who bike to the match may use the free bike valet at the match presented by SABA. Fans who use the bike valet can use their bike valet ticket to get 10% off Republic FC merchandise at the match.
