Last Match in Distant Past as United Looks Ahead to LA
May 27, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Phoenix Rising FC News Release
Arizona United Soccer Club heads back to Southern California for its second road meeting with Los Angeles Galaxy II this Saturday, May 28 at 7:30 p.m. And the team has spent the last week trying to get away from the performance they had last Saturday night in a 3-1 loss to Colorado Springs.
"It was one of those games where we just couldn't quite get it together," said Arizona United SC head coach Frank Yallop. "I think Colorado did a good job playing their style of game and we couldn't quite handle it at times. But that game is out of the way now. We just have to look forward to the next one."
The team is still looking for a goal outburst in league play (they scored five goals against Premier Development League side FC Tucson in the U.S. Open Cup) but Yallop isn't worried about the players' spirit or the lack of goals recently. He pointed out that the players are still getting used to playing with each other. Plus, various injuries across the roster, and a suspension this weekend (Luke Rooney), has made the process a little slower.
That hasn't cut down the confidence of the players, who are sure the goals will come.
"It's always a challenge (when you don't score goals)," said Arizona United defender Nick Costa. "We just have to keep working and stay positive and just keep a positive mindset knowing that we're going to (score) and open the floodgates from there. ... We're getting closer and closer and hopefully we eventually get the (match) that sets us off."
The last time the two clubs met, Arizona United went into the half down 2-0. At the time, Yallop attributed the poor start to nerves associated with playing in the opening match of 2016. The club came out of the break much stronger, but couldn't find the back of the net en route to a 2-0 loss.
"We have to get a win," Yallop said. "It's another away game for us, but it is what it is. ... Our last three home games, we haven't scored first and that's a big thing. You have to score first to get the opposition on the back foot and then we can really push the issue (offensively)."
Scouting Report: Jack McBean. Jack McBean. Jack McBean. Arizona United needs to keep an eye out for the prolific scorer (he's scored in six of the club's 10 matches in 2016). He's already scored nine goals this season, making him the top scorer in the country.
Previous meeting: Arizona United kicked off the 2016 season in Los Angeles. But a poor start doomed them in a 2-0 loss to Los Dos.
