Preview: Storm Travel to Young Arena for Battle with Black Hawks

Waterloo, IA. - The Tri-City Storm begin a three-game road trip tonight at Young Arena in Waterloo, IA in a matchup against the Western Conference leading Waterloo Black Hawks. On Friday and Saturday, the Storm will travel to the Covelli Centre in Youngstown, OH for two battles against the Youngstown Phantoms. Tonight's game is the final game in a five game season series between the Black Hawks and Storm. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.

Tri-City (15-13-3-2) lost back to back games to Waterloo last weekend at the Viaero Center after winning five consecutive games for the first time this season. Colby Ambrosio and Chase McLane scored goals in both of Tri-City's home losses to Waterloo last weekend. Tonight's game is the second game for Tri-City this season at Young Arena. The team dropped a 1-0 decision against Waterloo on the road earlier this season on October 12th. Over the past five seasons, Tri-City holds a 3-5-2-0 record when playing inside Young Areas. All four previous games this season between the Black Hawks and Storm have been decided by only one goal. Tri-City currently sits in 4th place in the tightly packed Western Conference standings. Tonight's game is the only game in the USHL, meaning that a victory tonight over Waterloo would give Tri-City sole possession of 2nd place in the Western Conference standings entering this weekend's road games against the Youngstown Phantoms. After its three-game road trip this week, Tri-City returns home to the Viaero Center on Saturday, January 25th.

Waterloo (24-6-1-0) currently holds a thirteen-point lead over 2nd place Fargo in the Western Conference standings after back to back road victories over Tri-City last weekend at the Viaero Center in Kearney. The Black Hawks have now won eight of the last ten games and host the Storm tonight for the second time this season. A Waterloo win over Tri-City tonight would give the Black Hawks a sweep in the five game regular season series. Griffin Ness and Patrick Guzzo have each netted multiple goals against the Storm in the previous four games played between the two teams this season. Luke Bast has a combined plus/minus rating of +6 in the season series. Goaltenders Logan Stein and Gabriel Carriere have a combined save percentage of .964% in games played against the Storm this season. Tonight's game is the official beginning to Waterloo's second half of its 2019-2020 regular season scheduled. Through 31 games played this season, scoring leaders for the Black Hawks include; Ryder Rolston (13), Xander Lamppa (11), Connor Caponi (11), Wyatt Schingoethe (10), Patrick Guzzo (9), Griffin Ness (8), and Kyle Haskins (8).
