Preview: Storm Set for Final Weekend of Regular Season

Kearney, NE - The Tri-City Storm enter the final weekend of the 2017-2018 regular season with a spot secured in the 2018 Clark Cup Playoffs. The Storm will be the #6 seed from the Western Conference and will play two final regular season games at home before the playoffs begin. Tri-City hosts the Sioux City Musketeers tonight at the Viaero Center at 7:35pm. Tri-City is 4-1-0-1 against Sioux City this season through six games played.

Tri-City (29-25-2-2) has dropped is last seven games but faces off tonight against a Sioux City team that it has found success against this season. The Storm is currently 4-1-0-1 against the defending Anderson Cup Champion Musketeers who also represented the Western Conference in last season's Clark Cup Final. Tri-City has clinched a playoff spot and will enter next week's playoffs as a #6 seed regardless of this weekend's results. While the two home games this weekend have no impact on the Storm's playoff seeding, Tri-City will look to finish the regular season with a winning record on home ice. Tri-City is currently 13-14-1-0 on home ice with two home games left before the season's end. Storm points leader Bryan Yoon is two assists away from tying the all-time record for most assists recorded during a single season by a Storm defenseman. Yoon currently has 32 assists with two games remaining in the regular season. The team record for most assists by a defenseman in a season was set by Mattias Goransson during the 2015-2016 regular season. Goransson recorded 34 assists for the Storm in 58 games played during a 2015-2016 regular season that was punctuated with the Storm's 1st Clark Cup Championship in the playoffs. The team record for most points in a single season for any skater, regardless of position, was set by forward Jaden Schwartz during the 2009-2010 season. Schwartz tallied a team record 50 assists that season and was selected 14th overall in the 2010 NHL draft by the St. Louis Blues following his record breaking season with the Storm. Yoon currently has 35 points with the team this season and is looking to become the first defenseman to lead the Storm in points in team history.

Sioux City (25-26-4-3) has secured a 7th place finish in the Western Conference standings and will miss this year's Clark Cup Playoffs after finishing 1st place in the regular season standings a year ago. Sioux City won the 2017 Anderson Cup for best finish in the regular season and fell to Chicago in the 2017 Clark Cup Final. The Musketeers were chasing Tri-City for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference last week before a 4-0 loss to Cedar Rapids eliminated Sioux City from playoff contention. Sioux City is 4-5-0-1 in its last ten games and will end the season in Omaha tomorrow night in a matchup against the Lancers. Cole Koepke has led the offense this season for the Musketeers with 27 goals and 38 points on the year. Martin Pospisil leads the team with 29 assists and is also the USHL's penalty minutes leader with 253 on the season.
