Steel Jersey Auction on Friday to Benefit Humboldt Broncos

(GENEVA, ILLINOIS) -- The Chicago Steel announced that proceeds from a 2017-2018 Steel game-worn jersey auction to take place at the team's Fan Appreciation Night game Friday, April 13 will be donated to assist with recovery efforts from last week's tragic bus accident in the Canadian Prairies involving the Humboldt Broncos of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL).
Fans will have an opportunity to place bids at Friday's game on all Steel black game jerseys and select white jerseys, which will be signed and distributed following the conclusion of the season. The silent auction will run through the start of the third period.
"Over the past week, the hockey community has banded together to honor the victims of this horrible tragedy," said Steel President Dan Lehv. "We hope that our Steel family can play a small role in the healing process."
16 members of the Broncos' organization passed away following a horrific crash involving the team's bus and a semi-trailer near Armley, Sask., while the Broncos were traveling north for a playoff game. The 13 other passengers were injured and 12 of them remain hospitalized, per the CBC.
Last Saturday night at Covelli Centre in Youngstown, Ohio, Steel players stood side-by-side at center ice with their peers from the Youngstown Phantoms for a pre-game moment of silence to honor and remember the victims of the tragic crash.
A GoFundMe fundraiser page has been established for the Broncos community to help families and loved ones travel to Humboldt and aid in the medical and funeral costs for the players and staff involved in the accident.
Tickets to Fan Appreciation Night, the 7:05 p.m. regular season home finale against the Central Illinois Flying Aces, start at just $10 when purchased in advance and parking is always free. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a Steel Team Photo.
