Preview: Spirit Travel to Sarnia for Sunday Matinee

Sarnia, Ontario - The Saginaw Spirit (7-4-1-1 16pts.) travel to Sarnia to take on the Sting (6-6-1-0 13pts.) for the second meeting of the season for these West Division rivals. Sarnia took the first meeting this season, 6-2 at The Dow Event Center.

Saginaw is coming off a shootout loss at home Saturday evening against the Niagara IceDogs. The Spirit bounced back from a two goal first intermission deficit to salvage a point in the game.

Saginaw leading scorer Albert Michnac extended his league-best scoring streak to 13 games to start the year with a goal and assist in the losing effort. Michnac had a goal in the first game against the Sting back on September 22.

Alternate captain Brady Gilmour provided the game tying goal early in the second period. The Detroit Red Wing prospect is averaging a point per game to this point in the season.

The game will be Sarnia's third game in as many days, coming off a home-and-home series against the Flint Firebirds on Friday and Saturday.

Philadelphia Flyers prospect Anthony Salinitri had two goals and an assist for the Sting in the first game against the Spirit. The Windsor, Ontario native has scored nine goals and 18 points in his career against Saginaw.

Sunday's game will feature two players in the top-four in OHL rookie scoreing. Saginaw's first round pick Cole Perfetti (11) is third among all OHL rookies through 13 games..

Rookie Jacob Perreault is leading all Sarnia players with seven goals on the year. In the first game against Saginaw, Perreault scored two goals including his first career OHL goal.

Mitch Elliot leads Sarnia's defensive core in points with 13. The Grosse Pointe, Michigan native is averaging better than a point a game this season with a plus-minus of plus/eight.

In the last three previous seasons Saginaw is 8-8-1-1 against Sarnia, with three wins coming on the road.

The Sarnia Sting have two players on their roster drafted by NHL teams, forwards Ryan McGregor (Toronto Maple Leafs), and Adam Ruzicka (Calgary Flames).

Saginaw boasts six players with rights owned by NHL teams, forwards Brady Gilmour (Detroit Red Wings), Blade Jenkins (New York Islanders), Damien Giroux (Minnesota Wild), defensemen Bode Wilde (New York Islanders), Reilly Webb (Detroit Red Wings), and goaltender Ivan Prosvetov (Arizona Coyotes).

Saginaw returns home Saturday, November 3, to take on the Guelph Storm for First Responders Night at The Dow Event Center. There will be a Saginaw Spirit player poster giveaway item and a player will be signing autographs after the game. Saginaw salvaged a point during the first meeting after coming back from a five-goal deficit to force overtime.
