Saginaw Spirit News Release
Flint, Michigan - The Saginaw Spirit (10-7-1-1 22pts.) travel to Flint to continue the I-75 Divide Rivalry against the Flint Firebirds (2-17-1-0 5pts.) on Wednesday evening. The puck drops at the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center at 7:00 p.m. The Spirit have taken the first two games of the season against Flint.
Saginaw is coming off a 7-1 loss to the Windsor Spitfires on the road Sunday. Minnesota Wild Prospect Damien Giroux scored the lone Spirit goal in the game. The Spirit captain has been dominant against the Firebirds of late, scoring seven goals and 16 points in the last 10 games.
Although the Spirit dropped a 7-1 decision Sunday, Saginaw scored ten goals in two games, en route to a 5-1 win over Mississauga Friday and a 5-3 win over the Soo Greyhounds Saturday.
New York Islanders prospect Blade Jenkins has been strong in his career against the in-state rivals. The Jackson, Michigan native has 13 points with six goals in 10 career games against the Firebirds.
Wednesday marks the return of Saginaw first round pick Cole Perfetti to the Spirit lineup after playing for Hockey Canada in the U-17 Hockey Challenge. Perfetti has played well in his rookie campaign with eight goals and 12 points in 14 games. The Whitby, Ontario native had three goals and two assists in the two games against Flint.
Arizona Coyotes prospect Ivan Prosvetov shut out the Firebirds at The Dow Event Center back on October 10. It was the first career OHL shutout for the Russian goaltender.
Spirit 2017 first round pick Nicholas Porco is currently tied for the team-lead with nine goals this season. Porco has seven career points against the Firebirds in nine games.
Saginaw is 10-0-1-0 against Flint in the past 11 games and has outscored the Firebirds, 12-2 in the two games this season.
Dallas Stars prospect Ty Dellandrea leads all Flint Firebirds with 23 points this season. Dellandrea was selected by the Stars 13th overall in the 2018 NHL draft. The Spirit has done well containing Dellandrea thus far in his career, allowing just eight points in 18 games to the Flint center.
The Flint Firebirds have won two of the last three games since their 0-16-1-0 start. In the last three-game stretch the Firebirds have outscored their opponents, 15-11.
Wednesday's puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Dort Federal Event Center in Flint. Fans can catch all the action on FM Talk and Sports 100.5 and www.fmtalk1005.com with Joey Battaino and Dennis Desrosiers on the call.
