Preview: Rockets gear up for Family Day weekend

The Kelowna Rockets will be looking to build on their victory from Wednesday night when a pair of Central Division opponents roll through Prospera Place over the Family Day weekend.

The Rockets will host the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. before Vancouver Canucks prospect Jett Woo and the Calgary Hitmen stop in for a 2:00 p.m. matchup on the Family Day Monday.

Kelowna snapped their five-game losing streak with a commanding 8-3 victory over the Tri-City Americans on Wednesday. Pavel Novak lead the way with five points while Matthew Wedman collected a hat trick.

The Vancouver Giants came back in the third period on Wednesday night to down the Rebels 4-1 at the Langley Events Centre. The Rebels will take on the Kamloops Blazers on Friday night before making their way to Kelowna on Saturday.

The Hitmen dropped the Regina Pats 8-1 on Wednesday night in Calgary. They'll open their B.C. Division road trip on Saturday up north in Prince George before travelling down to Kelowna on Monday.

This will be the only time the Rockets face the two Central Division teams during the regular season.

Players to watch:

Kelowna

* Captain Nolan Foote is expected to make his return to the Rockets lineup this weekend. The 19-year-old has been sidelined since January 10 with a lower-body injury. He has 33 points (15G, 18A) in 26 games this season.

* Rockets assistant captain Matthew Wedman was buzzing on Wednesday night, picking up three goals in his return to the lineup from his stint on the injured reserve. Since being acquired from the Seattle Thunderbirds in early December, Wedman has 21 points (9G, 12A) in 24 games.

Red Deer Rebels

* Finnish defenceman Christoffer Sedoff is ranked 50th overall by NHL's Central Scouting on their midterm rankings for the upcoming 2020 NHL Draft in Montreal. He was selected 25th overall by Red Deer during the CHL Import Draft last June.

* Winger Arshdeep Bains leads the Rebels in scoring with 42 points (15G, 26A) in 53 games this season.

Calgary Hitmen

* Defenceman Jett Woo was the Vancouver Canucks second-round draft pick (No. 37) at the 2018 NHL Draft. The Hitmen acquired Woo from the Moose Jaw Warriors over the summer, Kaedan Korczak's younger brother, Ryder, was one of the pieces that went the other way in the deal.

* The Hitmen acquired Anaheim Ducks prospect, Kyle Olson, from the Tri-City Americans at the trade deadline. The 20-year-old recently made his debut with the Calgary after being sidelined with an injury, he's picked up four points (2G, 2A) in three games while wearing a Hitmen jersey.
