Today's Preview: The Grasshoppers (A, Marlins) hope to take the field on Thursday against the Intimidators (A, White Sox) following back-to-back rainy days that washed out the final two games of Greensboro's 3-game series at Rome. The Hoppers are slated to open a 4-game series on Thursday at Intimidators Stadium supported by Atrium Health with more rain in the forecast. Greensboro holds a 9-4 edge in the season-series against Kannapolis, including a 3-game sweep at Kannapolis at the end of the First Half to prevent the Intimidators for securing a postseason berth. The Grasshoppers are on a season-best 5-game winning streak entering this series while the Intimidators have won eight of their last nine.

Hoppers Hurler: Daniel Castano, 23, makes his seventh start for the Grasshoppers after opening this year with Class A-Advanced Jupiter. He is coming off 6.0 scoreless innings as part of a shutout win on July 27 vs. Hickory. That night, he fanned seven while issuing his first three walks with Greensboro in 2018. Castano has now struck out 43 batters compared to three walks in 38.0 innings over six starts. Over his last two starts, he has worked 13.0 consecutive scoreless innings, last giving up a run on July 15 vs. Asheville. He has not faced a White Sox affiliate in his career. The left-hander began 2018 with a 5-6 record and 5.65 ERA (36 ER/57.1 IP), 37 strikeouts compared to 22 walks, and a .315 average against in 11 games (11 starts) in the Florida State League before a pair of rehab appearances with the GCL Marlins. His combined stats this season are 5-7 with a 5.43 ERA (40 ER/66.1 IP) in 13 games (12 starts). The Marlins acquired Castano on Dec. 14, 2017, as part of the trade that sent former Grasshopper and Major League outfielder Marcell Ozuna to the Cardinals. St. Louis selected Castano in the 19th round of the June 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Baylor. He spent last season in the New York-Penn League, going 9-3 with a 2.57 ERA (26 ER/91.0 IP) and 81 strikeouts in 14 games (14 starts) with the State College Spikes.

Alive With Five: Greensboro has now won five straight games, matching its longest streak of the 2018 season (June 15-23). The Grasshoppers' longest winning streak of last year came May 4-11 when the team won six straight. The team's longest winning streaks since 2005 include:

One Run Wonders: Greensboro improved to 22-16 (.579) in games decided by one run in 2018 with a 6-5 win Monday at Rome - the team's last game. The Hoppers have the third-best winning percentage in 1-run games in the SAL this season, behind 24-16 Kannapolis (.600) and 21-15 Lakewood (.583). The Grasshoppers have the second-most wins by one run in the Sally League behind only Kannapolis.

Who's Your Crawdaddy: Trevor Rogers struck out a career-high 12 batters to shatter his previous high watermark of eight as Greensboro completed a sweep of Hickory on Sunday. He threw 95 pitches (67 strikes) to match his career-high for pitches set in his previous start on July 23 at Lakewood. The left-hander worked 7.2 innings, working around two walks and allowing one hit after carrying a no-hitter two outs into the eighth inning. Rogers completed the month of July with a 1-2 record and 2.67 ERA (10 ER/33.2 IP) and 41 strikeouts in six games (six starts) after he went 0-2 with a 9.15 ERA (21 ER/20.2 IP) in his first six starts. The Marlins selected Rogers in the first round of the June 2017 draft.

Rockin' Rogers: Trevor Rogers' 12 strikeouts on Sunday set a new season-high by a Grasshoppers pitcher, surpassing the 10 strikeouts by Dustin Beggs on June 12 vs. Hickory in Game 1 of a doubleheader. That day, Beggs fanned 10 over 5.0 innings of work - the only other Grasshoppers pitcher with a double-digit strikeout game this season. Rogers also matched the longest outing by a Greensboro pitching in 2018, working 7.2 innings to equal Brady Puckett's 7.2 innings of work on May 5 vs. Greenville.
