Although Wellwood was hired as the Firebirds next head coach last Thursday, Oct. 18 (see more), he was unable to obtain his work visa in time for the previous two games this past weekend. As a result, this Friday will be Eric Wellwood's first game as head coach behind the Firebirds' bench.

Earlier this season, the Sting had the upper hand on Flint with a 4 - 1 decision in Sarnia on September 28. Jacob Winterton scored his first career OHL goal in the contest, and netminder Emanuel Vella earned 'Second Star' honors, making 47 saves on 50 shots faced.

Sarnia has recorded one victory in their last eight games, posting a 1-6-1-0 record in the month of October so far. Flint is 0-7-0-0 this month.

All-time, the Firebirds hold a 13-12-0-0 edge in the overall series between the two clubs and are 6-7-0-0 in Sarnia. Last season, Flint posted a 3-5-0-0 record against Sarnia, who spent part of the year ranked as the first-place team in the OHL.
