Erie Otters News Release
GUELPH, ON - The Otters headed to Guelph on a three game win streak hoping to continue the trend in their first divisional matchup of the season. These plans were sent off the rails just 22 seconds in as Nate Schnarr buried a wrist shot to put the Storm ahead early in the game. Things leveled out for a while until the Storm scored a powerplay goal to put the home team ahead 2-0. Things continued to get worse when defensemen Jack Hanley tested his luck and threw a shot from the point that snuck through, making it a 3-0 game heading into the first intermission.
The second period got off to a better start than the first for the Otters when Chad Yetman found the back of the net twice in five minutes to cut the lead to one goal at the midpoint of the game. Each team traded powerplay chances and headed to the locker room separated by a single goal.
Early in the third, Isaac Ratcliffe scored a goal for the Storm to bring the lead back to two goals. The Otters lead a strong offensive attack, and were eventually given a chance on a 5-on-3 powerplay on which they capitalized - cutting the lead back down to one and giving Chad Yetman the hat trick. Later on in the game, defensemen Kurtis Henry slid a puck through the Guelph defense and into the back of the net to tie the game up with minutes remaining. The teams failed to decide on a winner in regulation and the game headed to overtime to decide on a winner.
Overtime was one of possession and patience, as the Otters held the puck for the majority of the overtime period, until captain Kyle Maksimovich found the back of the net to make it a fourth straight victory on the road against the Guelph Storm.
Chad Yetman recorded his first hat trick of his OHL career.
The Otters will look to keep things rolling tomorrow night at Erie Insurance Arena against the North Bay Battalion at 7PM.
