December 30, 2022 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Charlottetown Islanders News Release
The new-look Charlottetown Islanders make their awaited return to the Eastlink Centre tonight for a home matchup against their Maritime Division rival Moncton Wildcats
The Islanders (12-17-2-1) came from behind against the Saint John Sea Dogs on Wednesday night to force overtime in the final minute of regulation; however, the comeback would fall short as Eriks Mateiko would score the shootout winner for the Sea Dogs. Dating back prior to Christmas, the Islanders have now lost five straight games.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats (16-14-0-2) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against the Cape Breton Eagles on Wednesday night before Cape Breton rattled off four straight goals to defeat Moncton 4-2. The Eagles currently sit second in the Maritime Division, although they're a healthy 14 points back of first-place Halifax.

PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Charlottetown
Simon Hughes made a great impression in his first game as an Islander. The Stratford, PEI product recorded a goal and an assist for his new team and was active all over the ice. This will be his first game at the Eastlink Centre wearing the Black and Harvest Gold.
While he didn't find the scoresheet, Carl-Etienne Micheljoined Hughes as the only two players in the game with a +3 rating, being on the ice for all three Islanders goals.
Moncton
Thomas Auger picked up the first goal of the game against the Cape Breton Eagles on Wednesday night. Auger now has points in three straight games dating back prior to Christmas.
Etienne Morin has proven to be one the QMJHL's brightest young stars. The 17-year-old defender leads the Wildcats with 35 points in just 32 games, a mark that has him third among all QMJHL defenders.
SERIES AT A GLANCE
The Islanders and Wildcats have met twice this season, splitting games thus far. Moncton defeated Charlottetown in overtime on October 15th while Charlottetown returned the favour on November 3rd.
