Predators Add Simon and Farrell

Nashville Predators Executive Vice President/General Manager David Poile announced today that the team has acquired forward Mike Farrell in exchange for Admirals' defenseman Alexander Ryazantsev. Poile also announced the signing of free agent forward Ben Simon who played the majority of last season with the Chicago Wolves(AHL).

Farrell broke into professional hockey as a defenseman at Providence College following the 1999-2000 season. The right wing scored 24 points (12g-12a) in 68 games for the Portand Pirates (AHL) last season and played in four games with the Capitals. The Carmel, Indiana native was an eighth round pick of the Capitals in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Simon leaves the Atlanta Thrashers organization after two seasons. He was a member of the 2001 Turner Cup Champion Orlando Solar Bears and the 2002 Calder Cup Champion Chicago Wolves. Last season, Simon scored 32 points (15g-17a) in 69 games for Chicago and earned an assist in ten games with Atlanta. The Cleveland, Ohio native played four seasons for the University of Notre Dame before turning pro in 2000-01 with Orlando. He was drafted in the fifth round by the Chicago Blackhawks in 1997 NHL Entry Draft.

Ryazantsev appeared in 71 games this past season for Hershey and Milwaukee of the AHL, recording eight goals and 14 assists (8g-14a-22pts). The Moscow, Russia native was acquired by Nashville from Colorado for a seventh-round draft choice in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft on March 11, 2003.
