Adirondack Phantoms News Release

(PHILADELPHIA, July 14, 2003) - The Philadelphia Phantoms today announced that center Ben Stafford - the only Phantom to appear in all 80 games last season - has been re-signed to a one-year American Hockey League contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal are not disclosed.

Stafford compiled 27 points (12G, 15A) and 38 penalty minutes last year in his second season as a pro. He ranked fifth on the club in goals, eighth in assists and points, and added three power-play goals and two game-winning tallies. The 5-11 Stafford also starred on the Phantoms' penalty-killing unit.

The 24-year-old was the big winner on Fan Appreciation Night, when the Phantoms handed out their annual team awards. The popular center was recognized three times, capturing the team's Most Consistent Player Award, the Phan Club's first-annual Unsung Hero Award, as well as the American Specialty/HG Insurance/AHL Man of the Year Award, which recognizes achievement in community service.

"I am very happy to be back with the Phantoms," said Stafford. "I'm looking forward to seeing my teammates from last season and meeting the new guys on the team, and hopefully we can put together a club that can go deep into the playoffs."

The Edina, Minn., native appeared in 26 AHL games as a rookie in 2001-02 with the Phantoms, Saint John Flames and Providence Bruins. Between AHL stints, Stafford earned East Coast Hockey League All-Rookie Team honors by registering 22 goals and 39 assists for the Trenton Titans. His 61 points ranked second on the Titans.

Stafford led Yale University to the Ivy League title as a senior in 2000-01. In 122 career collegiate games, Stafford totaled 38 goals and 72 assists for 110 points.

The Phantoms are currently accepting season ticket and game plan deposits for the 2003-04 season. Call 215-465-4522 for more information, or log on to www.phantomshockey.com.
