Bloomington PrairieThunder News Release

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Bloomington PrairieThunder obtained right wing Mike Zbriger and defenseman Dion Hyman from the Flint Generals on Tuesday for center Shawn Snider and a player to be named.

The 24-year Zbriger is a rookie, who started the season with the Chicago Hounds before being traded to Flint after four games. He played 29 games with the Generals, scoring seven goals with seven assists for 14 points.

For the season, the 5-foot-10, 178-pound Zbriger has scored 12 goals with seven assists for 19 points. He had five goals with Chicago.

"With Rennie (Tyler Rennette) coming back at center, it created a situation where we needed to get a winger," said PrairieThunder coach Derek Booth. "Zbriger is a first-year guy who we can build around."

The 25-year-old Hyman is in his fifth year in professional hockey. He played 35 games with the Generals this year, scoring four goals with 10 assists for 14 points.

During his career, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound Hyman has played at Laredo, San Antonio, Fort Worth, Corpus Christi, Laval and Memphis in the CHL, AHL and LNAH. He has scored 27 goals and added 64 assists for 91 career points.

"Hyman brings a toughness to the team, which is something we need," said Booth.

Shawn Snider's stay with the PrairieThunder was brief. He was obtained in a trade from Kalamazoo for Jason Lawmaster on Dec. 11. He played in eight games for the PrairieThunder, scoring two goals. He is currently on the 7-day injured reserve list.

Booth expects Zbriger and Hyman to play for the PrairieThunder in Thursday 7:05 p.m. Western Conference game against Rockford at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in United Hockey League action.
