IceHogs win three of four during Week 12

The 2006 calendar year came to an end and the Rockford IceHogs closed the year out in style winning three of four games during Week 12 of the 2006-07 United Hockey League season. Goaltending and defense continue to be stingy for the IceHogs while Nicolas Corbeil and Preston Mizzi are heating up offensively. Week 13 features three more games for Rockford including a pair at home on Friday and Saturday.

Transactions

-Rockford winger Jason Ralph was activated from Team Suspension on Sunday, Dec. 31

-Rockford goaltender Brenden Cuthbert was activated from the 7-Day IR on Friday, Dec. 29

-Rockford goaltender Jake Moreland was placed on the 7-Day IR"ˆon Friday, Dec. 29

-Rockford winger Erick Lizon was activated from the 10-Day IR on Tuesday, Dec. 26

Bacon Bits:

Head Coach Steve Martinson coached in his 800th career game on Friday night.

Center Preston Mizzi has a five-game scoring streak, accumulating 2g-5a-7pts and a plus/minus rating of +6.

Winger Nicolas Corbeil also has a five-game scoring streak, racking up 4g-3a-7pts with a +3 plus/minus rating.

Corbeil led the Hogs in scoring in December with 9g-6a-15pts.

Rockford improved to 4-0-0 at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum against the Bloomington PrairieThunder this season with Sunday's 4-3 win.

Goaltender Frederic Cloutier finished the month of December with a save percentage of .926 and a goals against average of 2.13.

Despite the solid number, Cloutier's record in December was 5-7-0.

As a team, Rockford's goalies posted a 2.27 goals against average and a .917 save percentage with a record of 8-7-0.

Rockford leads the UHL with 40 major penalties.

A night after squandering a game for only the second time this season when leading after the second period (3-2 vs. Muskegon), Rockford won a game for the first time when trailing entering the third period (4-3 at Bloomington).

Hot Hog Week 12:

After a four-game pointless streak, IceHogs center Preston Mizzi has put together a five-game scoring streak. Last week, in four games, Mizzi accounted for a goal and four assists for Rockford with a plus/minus rating of +6.

Upcoming Games:

Thursday, Jan. 4 at Bloomington PrairieThunder. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Rockford and Bloomington renew their rivalry in the clubs' first game of 2007. The game also marks the second of three straight between the Western Conference rivals and the fifth of seven at the U.S Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington.

Friday, Jan. 5 vs. Bloomington PrairieThunder. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. The Hogs play their first game at the MetroCentre in 2007 and open a season long five-game homestand. The game also marks the final of three straight against Bloomington. The first 1,000 fans will receive IceHogs Poster #4 courtesy of Pepsi, Medicine Man, Johnson Press and the Rockford Register Star.

Saturday, Jan. 6 vs. Kalamazoo Wings. The showdown starts at 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs welcome the defending Colonial Cup Champion Kalamazoo Wings back to the MetroCentre for the second time this season. The first 1,000 fans to the game on Saturday will pick up an IceHogs Fleece Stadium Blanket from Lonnie's Carpet Max.

Rockford IceHogs fans can catch all IceHogs Regular and Post Season games on Rockford's Voice, WNTA-AM 1330. Fans can also watch and listen to the Hogs on the World Wide Web with the B2 Networks! Once again this season, ESPN"ˆRadio "The Jock" 1380 AM will broadcast 20 Hogs games during the regular season. Check your local listings for game times and dates. No HogTalk This Week At Shooter's North:

There will be no Bud Light HogTalk this week at Shooter's North. The show, which is hosted by WXRX's Jim Stone and Double T will resume on Monday, Jan. 8. The show runs from 7-8 p.m. and features IceHogs Head Coach Steve Martinson and a pair of IceHogs players.
