Tuesday, December 26th - Chicago 4 at Quad City 6

The Mallards snagged a 6-4 win over a pesky Chicago Hounds squad on Tuesday night at The MARK. Quad City built a 4-0 first period lead while being outshot 19-14. The Hounds battled back to net three goals in the second while Matt Radoslovich scored shorthanded for the Mallards lone middle period tally. The teams traded goals in the final frame to set the score at 6-4. In the first period, Don Parsons kicked off the Mallards party with his 22nd goal of the year. With the tally, Parsons pulls to within one goal of Muskegon's Todd Robinson for the UHL lead in goal scoring. Luke Stauffacher added his 9th goal of the year less than a minute later and the Mallards were up 2-0. Justin Chwedoruk recorded a power-play goal at 12:36 of the opening period and Blake Stewart added the period's final goal at 17:21 to give Quad City a 4-0 lead after one period. In the second, Chicago cut the Quad City lead in half on early goals by Maris Ziedins and Tom Zabkowicz. With the score set at 4-2, Matt Radoslovich scored shorthanded on a feed from Justin Chwedoruk. The goal came in Radoslovich's 100th professional game. The Hounds cut back into the Mallards lead at 6:34 of the middle period when Adam Kostichka scored his fourth goal of the year. In the third, Bob Rapoza netted an even strength goal to pull Chicago within one at 5-4. After the Hounds pressured the Quad City net for several shifts in pursuit of an equalizer, Sean Starke scored into an empty net when Marty Magers left in favor of the sixth attacker to set the final at 6-4. In the game, 11 Mallards skaters recorded points including eight of the team's 10 forwards. Justin Chwedoruk led the charge with four points on a goal and three assists.

Friday, December 29th - Quad City 2 at Muskegon 5

The Quad City suffered a hard-fought 5-2 loss to the Fury on Friday in Muskegon. Matt Radoslovich and Don Parsons scored the goals for Quad City while the Mallards outshot the UHL's best team 39-23. The Mallards fell behind 2-0 in the first on an even strength goal by Justin Coutou and a power-play marker by Mike Watt. Coutou scored on a centering feed by Watt to give the Fury a 1-0 edge at 8:33 of the opening period. Watt added a power-play goal on a breakaway after receiving a long distance pass from UHL scoring leader Todd Robinson. The Fury opened up a 3-0 lead halfway through the second when Chase Trull scored his third goal of the year on a delayed Mallards penalty. Matt Radoslovich broke up the Muskegon shutout just 66 seconds later when he deflected a rebound out of mid-air and past Muskegon's Clayton Pool. With momentum in the Mallards favor, Quad City drew a penalty at 11:29. The Fury retook control of the contest when Rustyn Dolyny forced a turnover that lead to his eleventh tally of the year, a shorthanded marker, at 12:18 of the middle period. The Mallards dominated the third period while outshooting Muskegon 15-7. Don Parsons netted his 23rd goal of the year to pull the Mallards within two with 10:18 left in the game. The Mallards could get no closer to the UHL's top squad before Mike Watt netted his second of the game with the Mallards net empty at 18:55 of the third. The goal by Watt created a three-way tie for first in the UHL in goal scoring. Parsons, Watt and Muskegon's Todd Robinson each have a league-leading 23 goals on the season.

Saturday, December 30th - Quad City 7 at Flint 4

The Mallards scored three shorthanded goals to capture their 12th win of the year in a 7-4 victory at Flint on Saturday night. Justin Chwedoruk and Luke Stauffacher each scored a pair of goals while Sean Starke, Andrei Lupandin and Brett Pilkington added solo markers. A wild opening period featured five goals on 19 shots as the Mallards exited the period with a 3-2 edge. Luke Stauffacher netted his first goal of the period while shorthanded at 2:56. The Generals tied the game later on the same power play as Jeff Zehr capitalized on the Flint man advantage. Stauffacher retook the Mallards lead with an even strength goal just 101 seconds after Zehr's tally. After 7:44 of scoreless hockey, Flint's Terry Marchant netted a power-play goal to tie the game at two. Sean Starke scored the period's final goal with 1:49 left in the frame to give Quad City a 3-2 lead after 20 minutes. The Mallards opened up a three-goal lead in the second period on a pair of shorthanded goals by Justin Chwedoruk. The shorthanded tallies were recorded at 5:17 and 13:04 of the period and both were assisted by Luke Stauffacher. With the Mallards leading 5-2, Jeff Zehr netted his second power-play goal of the game with 4:04 left in the period to pull the Generals to within two to begin the third period. Quad City stretched their lead to four on third period goals by Brett Pilkington and Andrei Lupandin. Pilkington drove down left wing and potted the puck past Flint netminder Bryan Worosz to give Quad City a 6-3 edge at 1:26 of the third. Lupandin scored on a power-play point shot at 8:42 of the closing frame to give the Mallards a 7-3 lead. The Generals added a power-play tally by Jordan Fox to set the final at 7-4. The game concluded with a scrum that resulted in fighting majors for both goaltenders. Jason Tapp won a one-sided decision over Flint's Bryan Worosz following the scrum that began when Jeff Zehr slashed Mathieu Wathier in the game's closing seconds.

Sunday, December 31st - Muskegon 2 at Quad City 4

Quad City closed 2006 with a 4-2 win against the UHL's top squad, the Muskegon Fury. Don Parsons scored twice on the power-play in the final two minutes to move into the lead in the UHL goal scoring race. Brett Pilkington and Luke Stauffacher also scored in the Mallards 13th win of the season. Quad City recorded the only goal of the first period as Brett Pilkington converted on the power play to give the Mallards a 1-0 lead. Pilkington scooped a rebound off the end wall behind the Muskegon net before stuffing it past Muskegon netminder Ryan Cyr. It was the 12th tally of the year for the skilled rookie. In the second, Luke Stauffacher scored his fourth goal of the week to give Quad City a 2-0 edge. It was the 12th goal of the year for Stauffacher and his third goal in the last two Mallards games. At 10:57 of the second period, Billy Collins netted the first Muskegon goal to set the score at 2-1 after two periods. Muskegon tied the game just 52 seconds into the third on a goal by Mike Watt. The former NHLer scored on a 3-on-2 rush for his 24th goal of the year. It established Watt as the league's leading goal scorer, a distinction he would lose later in the period as Parsons netted two goals to move ahead of Watt for the goal scoring crown. Parsons scored his first of the game with 1:32 remaining. With Ryan Barnes serving a double minor penalty, Parsons scored on a goal-mouth scramble to put Quad City back in front at 3-2. Parsons was cross checked to the ice by Rustyn Dolyny immediately after the goal to set up another Mallards power play. With Dolyny in the box and Barnes serving the second penalty of his double minor, Parsons netted a 5-on-3 power-play goal to set the final at 4-2. Parsons finishes 2006 as the leading goal scorer in the UHL with 25 tallies through the Mallards first 30 games. He also leads the league in power-play tallies with 16.

Player of the Week

Luke Stauffacher is the Mallards nominee for UHL Player of the Week. The scrappy forward began the week with a goal and an assist in the Mallards 6-4 win over Chicago on Tuesday. He was held scoreless on Friday before recording six points (two goals and four assists) on Saturday night in Flint. Stauffacher capped the week by scoring a goal in a 4-2 Mallards win over Muskegon on Sunday.

Goalie of the Week

Zach Sikich is the Mallards nominee for UHL Goaltender of the Week. He made 33 saves to earn a 4-2 win over Muskegon on Sunday at The MARK.
