Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
MOBILE, Ala. - The Miami Marlins announced a pair of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight's game against the Mobile BayBears at Hank Aaron Stadium at 8:05 p.m. ET.
Infielder Rich Poythress has been released by the Marlins organization. Poythress, signed by the Marlins in early April, played in 46 games hitting .244 with four home runs and 17 RBI for Jacksonville.
In a corresponding move, infielder Ryan Rieger has been transferred from High-A Jupiter to the Suns. Rieger was on Jacksonville's Opening Day roster, and in his first at-bat of the season hit an RBI triple but dislocated his left shoulder going into the third base bag, and was placed on the disabled list two days later. With the Suns Rieger is batting 1.000 (1-for-1) with his RBI triple.
Rieger returned to action on May 27 with High-A Jupiter. In 18 games with the Hammerheads, Rieger hit .220 (13-for-59) with no home runs and three runs batted in along with a pair of doubles. Rieger was selected by the Marlins in the seventh round of the 2011 draft out of the College of the Sequoias (Visalia, California).
The Suns roster now stands at 25 active players and a revised roster is attached.
Tonight the Suns will send out right-hander Matt Montgomery (1-1, 4.91) while the BayBears will counter with a righty of their own in Charles Brewer (3-2, 2.37).
Suns fans can listen to Friday's game on the Suns Baseball Network, 94.1 WSOS-FM or throughwww.jaxsuns.com, MiLB.com or the Suns iPhone or Android app, beginning at 7:50 p.m. ET with the Memorial Hospital Suns Pregame Show.
