Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
Charleston, WV - The Delmarva Shorebirds could not duplicate the offensive performance from Saturday night. Instead, the Shorebirds (22-20) suffered their fifth shutout defeat of the year, this one a 7-0 final to the West Virginia Power on Sunday afternoon.
Hunter Harvey made the start for the Shorebirds, but he failed to repeat his dominant start from his most recent outing. On Monday, Harvey pitched seven scoreless inning against Lakewood, allowing just one hit. Against West Virginia, Harvey surrendered a season-high seven hits, as the Shorebirds fell behind 3-0 on his watch.
West Virginia took a lead with some help from Harvey in the third inning. The Power loaded the bases with no outs after a single and two hit batters. Harvey escaped serious damage, giving up just a sacrifice fly to Reese McGuire.
The Power pushed the lead to 3-0 with a rare mistake from Harvey. Francisco Diaz pummeled a deep home run to right field, running Harvey out of the game after just 4 2/3 innings.
Dylan Rheault pitched in relief for Delmarva, reinstated from the disabled list earlier on Sunday. In his first appearance since May 7th, Rheault allowed two runs in the sixth inning. West Virginia built on their lead even further with two runs in the eighth off Austin Urban.
Dovydas Neverauskas stymied the Shorebirds with five scoreless innings in the start. Neverauskas earned his first win since April 13th, improving to 3-1. Harvey took the loss for Delmarva, falling to 2-3.
The Shorebirds will try to regain control of the series on Monday evening. Left-hander Steven Brault (3-2, 2.48) will start for Delmarva against Power right-hander Shane Carle (1-3, 3.63). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm at Appalachian Power Park.
