Power Rally Matched Late in Loss

(Lexington, KY- April 17, 2015)- The West Virginia Power lost to the Lexington Legends 6-3 on Friday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. After a three-run rally tied the game in the top of the eighth, the Legends plated three in the bottom of the inning to earn the win.

The Legends tallied the game's first run in the second inning against Power starter Dovydas Neverauskas. With runners at second and third, Neverauskas was charged with a balk to bring home Brandon Downes. Lexington added two runs in the bottom of the second when Michael Hill tripled in Downes and Corey Toups for a 3-0 lead.

Corey Ray pitched five and two-thirds shutout innings for Lexington in his first start of the season. West Virginia managed one hit per inning over the first five, but did not crack the scoreboard until the top of the eighth. Jeff Roy reached on an infield single and beat a throw to second on a fielder's choice by Cole Tucker. Pablo Reyes singled in Roy from second and Cole Tucker crossed as well when Downs was charged with a fielding error on the base hit. Reyes scored the game-tying run on Jordan Luplow's first South Atlantic League hit.

Lexington answered with two outs in the bottom of the eighth, scoring three runs on three hits and one West Virginia error. Hill's second base hit of the game brought home two runs to seal the Legends win.

Yeudy Garcia (0-1) took the loss after allowing all three eighth inning runs. Colin Rodgers (1-0) was charged with a blown save, but earned his first victory of the season.

Game three of this four-game set is slated for Saturday evening at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Austin Coley will start for West Virginia on Saturday against Lexington's Zach Lovvorn. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
