Intimidators Drop Doubleheader to Hickory

April 17, 2015 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (April 17, 2015)- The clouds parted and the temperature warmed, just in time for the Intimidators to begin their doubleheader Friday night at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. Unfortunately, for the majority of the 2,800 fans in attendance the Kannapolis Intimidators (3-6) fell to the Hickory Crawdads (6-2), in both games.

After not letting up a single run in his first outing in the South Atlantic League, Spencer Adams (0-1) allowed five earned runs (seven total) in a 9-5 loss in game one. The Crawdads used five extra-base hits, including homeruns from Travis Dameritte (1) and Luke Tendler (3).

Christian Stringer did his best to match the Crawdads offense by going 2-4 at the plate including a double, triple and an RBI. Catcher Brett Austin continued his hot hitting, going 2-3 with two runs scored, upping his average to .450 (9-20) on the young season.

In game two, the Intimidators could not turn early hits into runs, falling 5-1. After the Crawdads scored a run in the first, Kannapolis responded by loading the bases, but the Intimidators were unable to capitalize in the bottom half of the frame. That trend continued as Kannapolis threatened again in the bottom of the second when Louie Lechich and Toby Thomas led off with singles. Crawdad starting pitcher Luis Ortiz (0-0, 0.00) fought himself out of the threat, finishing in four scoreless innings in a no decision.

Hickory extended their lead in the top of the third inning when first baseman Ronald Guzeman (1) took starting pitcher Yelmison Peralta deep to extend the Hickory lead to 3-0. Hickory added two more in the top of the fouth to secure their lead, 5-0.

Chris Curley (2) went yard to get Kannapolis on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning, but it was too little too late.

Peralta (0-2) took the loss, working 5.0 innings and allowing four rune (three earned) while striking out two.

Trey Lambert (1-1) earned the win with a scoreless fifth.

Kannapolis and Hickory play game three, of the 4-game set tomorrow night at CMC-NorthEast Stadium, at 7:05 p.m.
