Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - The BlueClaws used a four-run first inning to jump out to a lead on Hagerstown and they didn't look back, topping the Suns 9-3 on Friday night at Municipal Stadium.

The win put the BlueClaws at 5-4 on the season and snapped a two-game losing streak, giving Lakewood their first road win of the season.

The BlueClaws jumped out to a four-run first inning to open a lead, scoring first on a passed ball that brought in Malquin Canelo. Rhys Hoskins added an RBI single before Herlis Rodriguez hit a SAC fly and Derek Campbell's RBI single made it 4-0.

With the game 4-2, the BlueClaws began to push it out of reach in the 4th inning when Canelo added a double that brought home Grenny Cumana. The BlueClaws added three runs in the 5th inning, two on a double by Herlis Rodriguez, who would later score on a wild pitch.

Carlos Tocci extended his hitting streak to five with an RBI single in the 6th inning that made it 9-2.

BlueClaws starter Tyler Viza, who won three of 24 starts last year, won his second in as many starts this year, allowing two runs, both in the first inning on a home run by Jose Marmolejos, while striking out five. Austin Davis followed Viza and gave up one unearned run over three innings.

Canelo, Tromp, Hoskins, and Campbell all had two hits for the BlueClaws. Rodriguez drove in three runs, tying a career high and giving him eight RBIs on the season, three more than he had in 28 games in 2014.

The series in Hagerstown continues on Saturday night at 6:05. RHP Ranfi Casimiro (0-1) starts for Lakewood against RHP Drew Van Orden (0-0).
