Gnats Fall with the Rain 4-3 on Friday

Savannah, GA - On a soggy Friday night, the Charleston RiverDogs held off the Savannah Sand Gnats with a 4-3 win. The Gnats had the tying run aboard in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, but could not find the clutch hit to tie the game.

The 'Dogs (5-4) jumped on top with a three-run top of the third against Savannah starter Brad Wieck. Charleston took the lead when LF Jose Javier scored on a throwing error on Gnats' 3B Pedro Perez. DH Dustin Fowler added an RBI triple and then scored on Connor Spencer's sacrifice fly for a 4-1 Charleston lead.

The Gnats (3-5) fought back with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings but could not find the hit to tie the game. In the sixth, Perez walked and scored on 2B JC Rodriguez's RBI single into centerfield. In the sixth, C Tomas Nido doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by DH Vicente Lupo.

Rodriguez had two hits for Savannah. SS Luis Guillorme went 2-for-4 and scored once on the night. Guillorme raised his season average to team-high .346.

Wreck, who allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits and four walks in four innings, took the loss to fall to 0-2.

Charleston starter Jordan Montgomery limited the Gnats to three runs in his 5.2 innings to earn his second win of 2015.

With the Gnats trailing 4-3, the dynamic duo of lefties David Roseboom and Shane bay pitched a combined two shutout innings and totaled three strikeouts.

The Savannah Sand Gnats and Charleston Riverdogs will continue their four-game series tomorrow at 6:05 PM. It will be game three of the Subway Series in the South presented by Amtrak. The Gnats will send RHP Josh Prevost (0-1, 6.00), while Charleston's starter is to be determined. There will be more fireworks tomorrow for our Saturday Night Fireworks sponsored by E-93 and NASH 96.
