Power rally for a 4-3 win over Lakewood

The West Virginia Power rallied for a 4-3 win over the Lakewood BlueClaws Friday evening at Appalachian Power Park. The Power plated two in the bottom of the eighth inning beat the BlueClaws for the second time in three days and fifth time in sixth games at home this season.
After West Virginia starter Zack Dodson struck out the side in the top of the first, the Power backed him with an early run of support in the home half of the inning when Alen Hanson scored on a Gregory Polanco double. An Elias Diaz sacrifice fly against Lakewood's Hoby Milner in the fourth made it a 2-0 lead before Lakewood cracked the scoreboard.
With one out in the fifth inning, Lakewood's Carlos Perdomo reached on an error and Diego Gonzalez found his way aboard on a fielder's choice. Kelly Dugan hit a three-run home run over the short wall in centerfield for a 3-2 BlueClaws advantage. It was the first Lakewood home run in the series.
West Virginia had opportunities over the next three innings, putting the tying run on in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but could not capitalize.
In the bottom of the eighth, Kenny Giles, the third BlueClaws pitcher of the game, walked the first two batters and allowed Dan Gamache to reach on a bunt single while trying to sacrifice the runners into scoring position. Diaz grounded out to the right side of the infield and brought home the game's tying run. After Willy Garcia struck out, Ashley Ponce walked on four pitches to reload the bases. Hanson followed with a single that flew straight back at the pitcher but never left the infield grass to bring Chris Lashmet home for a 4-3 Power lead.
Zack Dodson pitched six innings, allowing three runs, all unearned, on six hits while striking out six, but did not factor in the decision. Joan Montero (1-0) tossed two shutout innings for his first South Atlantic League win before Nathan Kilcrease worked the ninth for his fourth save. Giles (2-3) was charged with a blown save and took the loss.
Hanson had three hits to pace the offense while five different players had one hit each to account for the rest of West Virginia's eight hits. Four different BlueClaws had two hits each in the loss.
West Virginia and Lakewood play the fourth game of this five-game set on Saturday evening at 7:05 pm.
