
RiverDogs' Eight-Game Homestand Ends With Splash

CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs started their second-half home schedule by winning seven of nine games in their longest homestand of the season. After a five-game road trip to Savannah, they will look to continue their winning ways at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park during the upcoming eight-game set. The RiverDogs will welcome the Asheville Tourists to the Lowcountry for four games, followed by four more against the Greenville Drive.
For these eight games, the organization has been hard at work, making sure that the "Be Your Own Fan" mantra is as big a part of the RiverDogs experience as the play on the field. On Wednesday, July 11, the Majors last 30-game winner, pitcher Denny McLain will make an appearance at the ballpark. He will be selling books and signing autographs. The next night, Ed Randall's Bat for the Cure will visit Riley Park in an effort to raise awareness for prostate cancer.
On the weekend of July 14-15, the team celebrates Larry Doby Heritage Weekend, a salute to some of the greatest baseball players in history. The weekend begins with Larry Doby Day on Saturday, where a special US Postal Service stamp to commemorate Doby's contributions to the game will be unveiled, the 1955 Canon Street All-Stars will be recognized and the Lawrence Holt Memorial Scholarship will be awarded. Sunday is Negro League Baseball Day and three former Negro League baseball players will be recognized on the field in a pregame ceremony. Also on Sunday, Gildan will be on hand providing mini-spa treatments for all moms. They will be giving massages, nail techs will be on hand to do nails and Gildan will be giving out goodie bags. On the final day of the homestand, the RiverDogs have a rare matinee game and are holding the annual Big Splash Day, where The Joe is turned into a water park for the afternoon. Fans should remember to wear their bathing suits to the ballpark, as everyone in attendance is sure to get wet during this mid-day game.
Tuesday, July 10 - 7:05 pm: Two-for Tuesday, Craft Beer Tap Tuesday
Any fan that comes to the Riley Park Box Office on the day of the game is entitled to the buy-one, get-one free ticket offer on Two-for-Tuesday. Craft Beer Tap Tuesday will have the refreshing craft beers available for tasting on the concourse in the form of Leinenkugel Summer Shandy, Blue Moon and Yuengling Light.
Wednesday, July 11 - 7:05 pm: Senior Wednesday, Preservation Night, Denny McLain Appearance
Senior Wednesday gives all seniors that come to the game the opportunity to take advantage of some great deals as they can purchase $5 tickets and will receive a voucher for a free hot dog, soda and chips. The Charleston Preservation Society will be at the game promoting keeping Charleston clean and the RiverDogs will be announcing preservation facts throughout the game.
Thursday, July 12 - 7:05 pm: Budweiser Thirsty Thursday
The Ashley View Pub will be ready to go for another exciting Budweiser Thirsty Thursday, thanks to DJ Natty Heavy, $1 beers and food and beverage specials.
Friday, July 13 - 7:05 pm: General Dynamics Land Systems-Force Protection Red Shirt Friday, Piggly Wiggly Postgame Fireworks, MillerCoors Aluminum Pint Nite, Ed Randall's Bat for the Cure
Ed Randall's Bat for the Cure will be stopping by on Friday to help raise awareness about prostate cancer. Remember to wear red to the game on General Dynamics Land Systems-Force Protection Red Shirt Friday because you will receive $1 off your ticket and then may donate that dollar to assist military families in need. Aluminum pints will be just $3 on MillerCoors Aluminum Pint Nite and Piggly Wiggly Postgame Fireworks will kick off the weekend at The Joe.
Saturday, July 14 - 7:05 pm: Negro League Jersey Giveaway, Larry Doby Weekend, Lowcountry Local First Go Local Saturday
Saturday's game marks Larry Doby Day and the beginning of Larry Doby Weekend as well as another giveaway day as the first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive an original Negro League jersey. We will unveil the new US Postal Service stamp that commemorates the life and contributions that Doby made as the first African American to play in the American League. The 1955 Canon Street All-Stars will be on hand and the Lawrence Holt Memorial Scholarship will be handed out during the game. The RiverDogs and Lowcountry Local First will give tri-county residents the chance to take $1 off their tickets on Go Local Saturday.
Sunday, July 15 - 5:05 pm: Larry Doby Weekend, Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission and Crews Subaru Family Sunday, Gildan Moms Day Tent
Larry Doby Weekend concludes on Sunday with Negro League Baseball Day, when both teams will wear throwback Negro League uniforms. Three Negro League players will be recognized before the game. Gildan will have a Moms Day Tent set up to provide mini-spa treatments for all moms. Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission and Crews Subaru Family Sunday makes Free Parking available for fans and Kids Eat Free, presented by Pepsi, is also part of the festivities. The outfield will be open for pregame catch on the field, there will be another edition of "Reading with a RiverDog" and postgame autographs will include the entire team and conclude another great day at The Joe.
Monday, July 16 - 7:05 pm: Dogs With A Cause featuring "Rein & Shine" Hair of the Dog Monday
The RiverDogs continue to show their support for local organizations on Dogs With A Cause night. The organization that will be featured on this Monday is Rein & Shine, which is dedicated to assisting people with disabilities. Hair of the Dog Monday means that $1 beers will be for sale in the Ashley View Pub.
Tuesday, July 17 - 12:05 pm: Two-For-Tuesday, Craft Beer Tap Tuesday, Big Splash Day
Another Two-for-Tuesday will give fans that visit the box office before the game the chance at buy-one, get-one free ticket offers.
