PREVIEW: The Shorebirds scored three runs on one hit in the sixth inning last night to come from behind and take game two, 6-4. It was their first win this season over Hickory in five tries. Devin Jones silenced the Crawdads over the final four innings to earn the save.
SAWYER EXTENDS HIT STREAK TO FIVE: Wynston Sawyer extended his hit streak to six last night (8-for-21, .380). Sawyer's season long hit streak is seven between June 15 and June 26. Sawyer's .223 batting average is the highest it has been since May 15 (.231).
WELCOME BACK OHLMAN: In his first game with the Shorebirds this season, Michael Ohlman connected on a two-run home run to right field in the fourth inning last night. Last night was his 140th career game with the Shorebirds. Ohlman hit one home run in eight games in the Gulf Coast League before being called up to Delmarva.
7 OF 10: Mychal Givens has hit safely in seven of his last ten games (12 total hits). His average has gone up from .213 to .236 during the span. Givens has struck out just one time in his last 37 at-bats over the last 11 games. On the year, Givens has a strikeout to walk ratio of 33:32.
BULLPEN SOLID OVER LAST FOUR: The Shorebirds bullpen has allowed just two runs on seven hits in their last 12.2 innings pitched over four games (1.50 ERA). The Shorebirds pen has not allowed a run to cross in three of the last four games.
BACK-TO-BACK SERIES WINS?: The Shorebirds have won back-to-back series just one time this season, between June 4-10 against West Virginia and Lakewood (both three game sets).
13 HBP FOR STARR: Sammie Starr was hit by a pitch last night, his 13th of the year, second most in the SAL. Matt Duffy of Lexington has been hit by 15.
