Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

Charleston, WV - August 11, 2014 - The South Atlantic League has announced its Pitcher-of-the-Week and Player-of-the-Week for the period from August 4 through 10. West Virginia Power right-hander Buddy Borden was tabbed as the Pitcher-of-the-Week while outfielder Austin Meadows was named the Player-of-the-Week.

Borden, a seventh round draft choice by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2013, went 2-0 during the week with 0.69 earned run average, helping West Virginia beat both Hagerstown and Asheville. Borden worked 13 innings and allowed just one run on four hits. He also struck out 14 during the week, including a season-best ten strikeouts on August 9. This marks the second weekly award for the pitcher, who also won for July 7 through 14.

Meadows, a first round draft choice by the Pirates last summer, hit .480 over six games played during the last week with four doubles, two home runs, five runs scored and seven runs batted in. The outfielder missed the first three and a half months of the season with an injury, but is batting .351 over 30 South Atlantic League games played since July 12.

Borden and Meadows' sweep is the first time two Power players have been honored for the same week of work since West Virginia's affiliation with Pittsburgh began in 2009. For more information, contact the Power front office at (304) 344-2287 or visit www.wvpower.com .
