Kannapolis Takes 10-0 Win over Legends

(KANNAPOLIS, N.C.) The Kannapolis Intimidators broke the game open with a seven-run third inning and went on to a 10-0 victory over the Lexington Legends Monday night.

A three-run homer by Toby Thomas in the second inning put the Intimidators in front.

Kannapolis sent 10 batters to the plate in the third. Christian Stringer led off with a single and came home on a double by Danny Hayes. Hayes scored on Jacob Morris' double, and Brett Austin drew a walk. The runners moved to second and third on a double steal, and Morris came home on a sacrifice fly by Carl Thomore, giving Kannapolis a 6-0 lead. After Pedro Fernandez relieved starter Matt Tenuta for Lexington, Thomas drew a walk, and Tyler Williams doubled home two runs. Ryan Leonards walked, and the runners advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Williams scored on Chevy Clarke's sacrifice fly to right field, and Leonards scored on right fielder Dex Kjerstad's throwing error on the same play, giving the Intmidators a 10-0 margin.

Kannapolis starter Andre Wheeler (2-3) allowed one hit over the first five innings and got the win. Matt Abramson worked through the eighth inning for Kannapolis, and Andrew Mitchell pitched the ninth.

Tenuta (5-9) was the losing pitcher.

Game two of the three-game series will be played Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
