Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
Salisbury, MD - The Baltimore Orioles announced that a pair of Shorebirds have again won the organization's monthly awards for July. Drew Dosch was named Orioles' Player of the Month, while Luis Gonzalez earned Pitcher of the Month. Five Shorebirds have now been honored by the Orioles during the 2014 season.
Drew Dosch batted .364 (39-for-107) in 27 games during the month of July. The Shorebirds' third baseman hit four doubles and one home run while driving in 15 runs. Dosch was named to the South Atlantic League All-Star Game as the starting third baseman for the Northern Division. This is the Ohio native's first professional season after being selected by the Orioles in the 7th round of the 2013 MLB Draft. As of August 10th, Dosch is currently 2nd in the league in hits (147) and on-base percentage (.398) and 4th in batting average (.332).
Luis Gonzalez was near untouchable in the month of July. Gonzalez made five starts in July, only allowing any runs in two of those outings. In total, the left-hander went 4-0 with a 1.65 ERA with six runs (five earned) allowed in 27 1/3 innings pitched. Gonzalez struck out 27 batters compared to just six walks issued in the month. Opponents batted just .212 off the southpaw in July. The native of the Dominican Republic went three straight starts without surrendering a run from July 17th through July 30th. Over the course of five starts, Gonzalez spun together 23 consecutive scoreless innings.
Dosch and Gonzalez join three other Shorebirds to be honored by the Orioles this season. Hunter Harvey was Pitcher of the Month for May, while Chance Sisco and Jon Keller took home the honor for June. For tickets or more information, please contact the Shorebirds' front office at 410-219-3112.
