Power Play Powers RiverKings over Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- Powered by three power-play goals, the Mississippi RiverKings (21-13-3) won their second straight game with a 4-1 victory over the Fayetteville FireAntz (14-19-3) in Fayetteville on Friday night.

The FireAntz jumped out to an early lead midway through the first. John Clewlow's shot beat Matt Krahn 11:44 into the opening frame with Kevin Kessler and Kyle McNeil assisting. The teams skated the remaining eight minutes scoreless to put Fayetteville on top 1-0 at the first intermission.

In the second, the RiverKings tallied a pair of goals just 12 seconds apart. With Bobby Reed in the penalty box for Fayetteville, Matt Whitehead wristed a shot over the blocker of Dustin Carlson to tie the game at one. Matt Harrington had the puck deflect off his leg out in front to put the RiverKings ahead 2-1 going into the second intermission.

The RiverKings added insurance markers in the third. Mike Hayward notched his fourth goal of the season, on the power play, with a shot from the point that ricocheted off the post and past Carlson to put the visitors up by two. With nine second remaining, Harrington tallied his second goal of the night, another power play marker, to give the RiverKings a 4-1 win and their second in as many games.

Matt Krahn (10-5-3) picked up the win after stopping 30 of 31 shots against. Dustin Carlson (0-2-0) stopped 27 of 30 shots against in the loss.
