Knoxville squeaks by Columbus, 4-3

The game between the Knoxville Ice Bears and the Columbus Cottonmouths was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Knoxville emerged with a 4-3 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Berkley Scott secured the win for the Ice Bears with a goal in the third period.

Knoxville got the win behind a great game by Scott, who had one goal and two assists. Scott scored 19:54 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Knoxville.

The Ice Bears put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Columbus to score on any of its four power plays. With 38 shots on target during the contest, Knoxville exceeded the 24.7 shots it averages per game this year.

Others who scored for Knoxville included Brad Pawlowski, Eric Satim, and David Segal, who each put in one. More assists for Knoxville came via Ben Power, who had three.

The Cottonmouths were hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled eight minors and two majors for 26 minutes in penalty time. Columbus relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Matt Gingera, Will Aide and Jordan Draper took 14 of the team's 26 shots.

Columbus also had goals scored by Kyle Johnson and Neilsson Arcibal, who scored one goal each. In addition, Columbus received assists from Tom Maldonado, Jason Gray, Alex Gallant, and Tory Allan, who each chipped in one.

The Ice Bears' Bryan Hince stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Knoxville totaled 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 1-for-7 on the power play. Andrew Loewen made 34 saves for the Cottonmouths on 38 shots.
