Columbus Cottonmouths News Release

The Columbus Cottonmouths tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Peoria Rivermen held on for a 3-2 victory.

Peoria took a 3-1 lead during the second period, only to have Columbus storm back on a Jordan Draper goal 15 seconds into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Cottonmouths' power play was ineffective against the Rivermen's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Peoria put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Columbus to score on any of its six power plays.

The Rivermen were helped by Taylor Larsen, who finished with one goal. Larsen scored 7:46 into the second period to make the score Peoria. Nick Prockow provided the assist. Others who scored for Peoria included Garrett Vermeersch and Tyler Amburgey, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Peoria were Steve Morra, who had one and Parker Stanfield, who had two.

The Cottonmouths' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Peoria power plays. By firing 31 shots on goal, Columbus exceeded the 27.1 shots it averages per game this year.

Dan Bremner also scored for Columbus. In addition, Columbus received assists from Levi Lind, Matt Gingera, and Chris Bailer, who each chipped in one.

Kyle Rank recorded 29 saves for Peoria. The Rivermen incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Cottonmouths' Andrew Loewen stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Columbus incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
