Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

Sioux City, IA - The Sioux Falls Canaries (11-24) and Sioux City Explorers (16-19) had Tuesday evening's game suspended due to darkness, after a power outage left Lewis & Clark Park without lights. At the time of the power outage, the Explorers led 2-0 going into the fifth inning.

The ballpark lost power approximately 30 minutes before the scheduled start of the game. The game's start was delayed 20 minutes due to the outage. It was then determined that the teams would play as many innings as possible with the hope that power would be restored before the game had to be suspended.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Explorers got out to a 2-0 lead. Leadoff batter Ryan Ruiz walked, Alex Llanos walked and Dan Meier flew out to set up runners on the corners with one out. Jorge Moreno hit a groundball back to Canaries starter Aaron Garrison. Garrison's throw to second base was dropped by shortstop Angelo Fermin. The error allowed Ruiz to score making it 1-0. After Ryan Gripp walked to load the bases, a wild pitch allowed Llanos to score for the 2-0 lead.

After the completion of the fourth inning the power had not returned and the umpires suspended the game due to darkness. The game will be resumed tomorrow at 5:35 p.m.
