St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release

St. Joseph, MO-The St. Joe Blacksnakes (19-18) won their seventh in a row, 5-4, in a dramatic, 10th inning win over St. Paul (21-16) at Phil Welch Stadium. The St. Joe bullpen retired 16 of the last 18 Saints hitters and St. Paul did not register a hit after the fifth inning.

The Saints jumped out early with single runs in four of the first five innings for a 4-1 to chase starter Shingo Mitsumori. But St. Joe rallied with three in the fifth to tie the game on RBIs by Jimmy Mojica, Ben Thomas and Jake Whitesides at 4.

Then St. Joe's bullpen took over. Matt Johnson, J.C. Huguet and Jamie Tricoglou (3-2) combned to allow just one hit over 5 2/3 innings.

In the tenth, Ben Thomas walked to start the inning. After a sacrifice bunt, Wil Quintana was intentionally walked to bring up Terrell Merriman. St. Paul brought in closer Matt Hammons and Merriman looped a 3-2 pitch in to right-center field to score Thomas for the winning run.

Mark Burke had three more hits and has seven hits in his last seven official at-bats. Burke now has a 10-game hitting streak. Wil Quintana doubled in the second and extended his hitting streak to a league-best 17 games. Scooter Jordan drew a pair of walks and has reached base in all 36 games he has had an at-bat.

The ‘Snakes are now just six games back of first-place Lincoln and wrap up the series with St. Paul Wednesday, just two games out of second place. Donovan Graves (3-2) starts for the ‘Snakes against Anthony Boughner (4-3) of St. Paul. First pitch is 7:05pm and the gates open at 6pm at Phil Welch Stadium.
