POWER REPLAY: West Virginia lost on Tuesday night by a 4-2 final to Lexington. The Legends took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the Power rallied to tie the game with two runs in the fifth when Elias Diaz, Kevin Mort, and Drew Maggi each doubled. Lexington regained the edge in the seventh against Brooks Pounder with two runs to secure the win.
BRING ON THE BIRDS: The Power close out the 2011 season on the road at Delmarva, starting a five game series tonight. West Virginia trails the all-time set 45-41, and have gone 12-23 at Arthur W. Purdue Stadium since 2005. The Power took 10 of 18 last season, including nine of 13 at Appalachian Power Park. West Virginia and Delmarva have played 11 times already this year, including a four games series in Salisbury, MD, in May that the Power took three of four during.
DONE AT HOME: The Power concluded their 2011 home schedule on Tuesday with a loss to Lexington. The Power finished with winning record at home for the first time since 2008 while still affiliated with Milwaukee, holding a 34-33 record at home this season. West Virginia went 33-34 in 2009 during their first year as a Pirates affiliate, and had a 34-35 mark last season.
FULL THROTTLE: One day after reaching on a season-high 19 hits, West Virginia amassed the most runs they have scored in any game since the affiliation with Pittsburgh began in 2009. The Power's 17 run outburst Monday was the most by the club since August 8, 2008 against Hickory while still affiliated with Milwaukee. West Virginia beat the Crawdads 17-1 that day.
FANS DIG THE LONG BALL: Andy Vasquez hit two home runs in Monday's win to become the first Power player this season to have a multi-homer game. Thirteen different players hit at least one home run for West Virginia this year, and Vasquez became the first player since Kyle Morgan on June 16, 2009 at Hickory.
RECORD HIGH OF ZEROS: West Virginia pitchers worked their 12th shutout of the season on Sunday to extend their club record. The Power worked their 11th shutout of the season on August 11, surpassing the previous season high of 10 combined shutouts by the 2006 club when the Power were still affiliated with Milwaukee. Since the association with the Pirates began in 2009, West Virginia has pitched 27 shutouts over nearly three seasons compared to 29 during the four-year Brewer stint.
DOWN THE STRETCH WE GO: West Virginia has five games remaining this season and the Power are one win under the club's total from the 2010 season and three under the 2009 tally from the first year as a Pirates affiliate. The 2010 version went 65-74, batted .274, and held a staff ERA of 4.39, while the 2009 edition was 67-70 with a .262 team average and a 4.18 ERA.
STILL ONE AWAY: Rogelio Noris has 24 career home runs for West Virginia over nearly two seasons in a Power jersey. Noris has matched Stephen Chapman for the most home runs in any player's Power career. Chapman hit a single-season record 24 home runs in a Power uniform in 2007. Noris, however, has not hit a home run since July 15, a span of 25 games and 102 at bats.
POWER POINTS: The 19 hits in Sunday's game were the most in any contest this year by the Power... Andy Vasquez now has five home runs this season, and each of them have been hit at home... Drew Maggi stretched his current hitting streak to nine games on Tuesday night...
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh lost 2-0 last night at Houston... Indianapolis beat Toledo 6-2... Altoona shutout Bowie 2-0... Bradenton did not play... State Collegewalked off with a 4-3 win over Batavia...
