PREVIEW: The Shorebirds look to end a season long nine-game losing streak in game one against the West Virginia Power. The Shorebirds and Power have both been eliminated from playoff contention. The Shorebirds went 0-5 in the final road trip of the season to Greensboro. The Shorebirds gave up 38 runs in the series (7.6 per). This is the fourth series between Delmarva and West Virginia. The Shorebirds lost the only series at Perdue Stadium (5/25-28) three games to one.
RUDY, RUDY, RUDY: Shorebirds center fielder John Ruettiger had 11 of the 39 total hits (28 percent) in the Greensboro series. He takes a season long six-game hitting streak and 10-game on-base streak into game one against the Power. The 2011 eighth round selection has four three-hit games in his last six games played.
1-HIT SHY OF LAST YEARS MARK: Ty Kelly leads the Shorebirds with 125 hits this season. Last season, he recorded 126 hits to lead the Shorebirds. Kelly ranks sixth in the Orioles organization in batting average and tied for fourth in the organization in hits. The Tracy, California native ranks second in the system in on-base percentage (.373). Only former Shorebird Kyle Hudson (Norfolk) has a better OBP (.375).
FIRST TO 50: Michael Ohlman recorded his 50th RBI of the season on August 30 against the Greensboro Grasshoppers.
LATEST TO MOVE TO MAJORS: 2009 Shorebirds outfielder Kyle Hudson will join the Orioles for the first time today. He is the sixth former Shorebirds player to move up to the major leagues for the first time this season. The other five are Blake Davis ('06), Ryan Adams ('08), Matt Angle ('08), Pedro Beato ('07) and Zach Britton ('08).
THIRD IN WALKS: The Shorebirds offense has totaled 487 walks, third most in the SAL.
