Former Shorebird Kyle Hudson Called up to Orioles

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds are pleased to report that 2009 outfielder Kyle Hudson is the latest former Shorebird to be promoted to the major leagues. Hudson is the sixth former Shorebirds player to move to the major leagues this season.

Hudson, 24, batted .284 over 117 games for the Shorebirds during the 2009 season. He led the team with 61 runs scored, 31 stolen bases and 49 walks. Hudson finished tied for second on the club with 113 hits.

The Mattoon, Illinois native played in Frederick (Advanced-A) during the 2010 season and batted .260 with 40 stolen bases and 134 hits.

This season, Hudson started the year in Frederick before being promoted to Double-A Bowie in early May. After hitting .308 in 28 games for the BaySox, Hudson was promoted to Triple-A Norfolk in the middle of July. In 69 games for the Tides, he hit .297 with 39 runs and 26 stolen bases.

Hudson is being called up to the major leagues for the first time in his career.

Hudson joins six other former Shorebirds to get their first opportunity in the majors this season. The former fourth round pick in 2008 joins Blake Davis ('06), Ryan Adams ('08), Matt Angle ('08), Pedro Beato ('07) and Zach Britton ('08).
