Power Shutout Shorebirds in Opener, 2-0

Salisbury, Md. - The West Virginia Power held the Delmarva Shorebirds to four hits in a 2-0 win in game one of the final series of the season at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Thursday night. The Shorebirds dropped their tenth straight game.

The Power got on the board in the fourth inning. Mel Rojas, Jr. and Chase Lyles hit back-to-back singles. Justin Howard followed with a single to score Rojas, Jr. Lyles scored on a wild pitch to stretch the lead to 2-0.

Martin lasted six innings in his final scheduled start of the season. He allowed just six hits and two runs. West Virginia managed just two hits outside of the fourth inning against Martin.

D.J. Ferguson entered in the seventh and hurled three scoreless innings of relief. He allowed three hits.

Power relievers Justin Ennis and Jason Townsend allowed two hits over the final four innings. Power starter Zack Dodson earned the win over five shutout innings.

The Shorebirds have been shutout six times in the month of August.

The Shorebirds and Power play on game two of the series Friday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Parker Bridwell is the scheduled starter.
