POWER REPLAY: West Virginia lost 2-0 at Lexington. Tyler Waldron surrendered a two-run home run to Adam Bailey in the sixth inning for the only offense of the game. The Power outhit the Legends 5-4, but could not manage anything more than a double and four singles against two Lexington pitchers.
CLOSE CALLS: West Virginia and Lexington have played 13 times this season, and nine of those 13 have been decided by two runs or less. The largest margin of victory in the series this season is six runs, with the Power winning 9-3 on May 18 in game two of a doubleheader and Lexington winning 7-1 on June 4. Each of the last six games has been decided by two runs or less.
STREAKS APLENTY: Two Power players are riding six-game hitting streaks into today's game at Lexington. Justin Howard is batting .308 during his streak with a home run and six runs batted in, Drew Maggi has a .300 average with a home run and three batted in. Kevin Mort went 0-4 last night and saw his six-game streak come to a close.
FIVE STRAIGHT: West Virginia lost all three games over the weekend to Greensboro and has fallen in the first two games of this series at Lexington. The Power have matched their longest losing streak of the season. West Virginia lost five straight at Kannapolis from April 19 through 23.
LEFTY SWAP: The Pittsburgh Pirates swapped southpaw pitchers in the Power and Bradenton Marauders bullpens earlier this week. Jhonathan Ramos, sent to West Virginia on Friday was promoted back to Advanced-A Bradenton and was replaced by Eliecer Navarro.Ramos appeared in one game for the Power, tossing five and a third scoreless innings against Greensboro on Friday night after Zack Von Rosenberg allowed seven runs and didn't make it out of the first.
CALL IN THE INFIELD: Kevin Mort became the first Power player in nearly five years to pitch in a game. On July 23, 2006 while a Milwaukee affiliate, then manager Mike Guerrero used two position players, Brad Wilcutt and Tony Festa, to pitch late in a 10-2 loss against Lake County. Each player tossed a scoreless inning. Mort inherited two runnerslast night in the eighth and both would score. He also allowed a solo home run and holds a 4.50 ERA after two innings pitched.
HOME RUN HISTORY: Rogelio Noris has 22 career home runs for West Virginia over a season and a half in a Power jersey. Noris has matched Kenny Holmberg's two-year total for second most in club history. Stephen Chapman hit 24 home runs in a Power uniform in 2007, the most in any season for West Virginia, and also the most in any player's Powercareer.
POWER V LEGENDS: West Virginia has played Lexington more than any other team dating back to the 2005 season. The Power lead the all-time series 68-62 and have the edge at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington, going 38-31 on the road. The Legends, however, hold a 33-30 edge at Appalachian Power Park.
POWER POINTS: Justin Howard had played in 75 straight games prior to getting a day off on Sunday...Thursday's 14 inning game was the eighth longest in Power history (innings-wise)...
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh beat Houston 5-1 and look for a series sweep at PNC Park today... Indianapolis beat Toledo 10-4... Altoona fell 4-2 against Akron... Bradenton beat Palm Beach 5-2... State College dropped a 4-2 final at Auburn.
