TONIGHT'S MATCHUP

Sogard: Allowed 1 R on 2 H with 0 BB and 2 K over 3.1 relief IP in 5/28 game vs. ROM (7-3 Braves)

POWER REPLAY: West Virginia beat Lexington 5-1 on Wednesday evening. Zack Von Rosenberg pitched six solid innings, allowing only three hits and one run while striking out seven in his first win of the season. Rogelio Noris hit a solo home run in the second, and the Power added a run in the third, two in the sixth, and one in the eighth to secure the victory.

BACK FOR MORE: Rogelio Noris hit 15 home runs for West Virginia during the 2010 season and has added four to that total so far this season. Stephen Chapman holds the single-season record with 24, which is also the most byany player during his respective stint with West Virginia. Noris is tied for fourth all-time in Power history with 19 career home runs, matching Sefan Wilson and trailing only Chapman, Kenny Holmberg (22), and Kyle Morgan (20).

MARVELOUS MAY: Brandon Cumpton was honored as the Pitcher of the Week by the South Atlantic League yesterday for his efforts from May 23 through 29. The right-hander was the first Power player to be honored by the league for their efforts this at any point this season. Cumpton went 1-0 last week with an untouched ERA of 0.00 and eight strikeouts. On Monday, he won his sixth straight decision, giving him a perfect 6-0 record during May. The right-hander was 0-3 with a 13.83 earned run average during April. In May, Cumpton lowered his overall ERA to 4.53 after allowing only five earned runs in 38 innings (1.18 ERA during May)

WILD AND WONDERFUL: Cole White was transferred to the Power roster when Matt Curry was promoted to Altoona. White was selected in the 42nd round of the 2008 draft out of the United States Military Academy, played 21 games for State College that summer, and spent 2009 serving active duty in the U.S. Army. The 26 year-old began this season with Bradenton and .206 over 19 games while splitting time between first base and the outfield.

POWER V LEGENDS: West Virginia has played Lexington more than any other team dating back to the 2005 season. The Power lead the all-time series 64-58 and have the edge at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington, winning 37 of 63 games. The Legends, however, hold a 32-27 mark at Appalachian Power Park. West Virginia took two out of three in Lexington two weeks ago.

STREAKING STARS: Mel Rojas Jr. and Dan Grovatt each extended their hitting streaks to seven games on Wednesday. Rojas Jr. is batting .281 with nine hits over 33 at bats during his last six games, while Grovatt has 11 hits over 32 at bats (.344) during that same stretch.

PINPOINT CONTROL: West Virginia pitchers have combined to walk just 107 batters this season, the fewest in the SAL. Power pitchers have also walked the fewest batters in all of professional baseball.

POWER POINTS: The Power will make up the May 3 rainout against Greensboro on June 14 at 5:30 pm as part of a doubleheader... Tuesday's game was played in front of 5,570 fans, the largest crowd of the season at Appalachian Power Park... Kawika Emsley-Pai's on-base streak was snapped at 20 straight with Wednesday's 0-4 night... Drew Maggi is batting .280 during his current six game hitting streak, his longest of the season so far... Victor Black has not allowed a base hit in any of his first three appearnces so far this season, and has only allowed on base runner (a walk last night).

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: The Pirates rallied for nine late runs in a 9-3 win over the Mets in New York... Indianapolis fell 1-0 to Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre... Altoona lost at Trenton 7-3. Matt Curry went 2-3 and is batting .364 for the Curve... Bradenton scored six in the first and held off Brevard County 6-5.
