Crawdads Drop Shorebirds 5-3 to Level Series

Salisbury, Md. - The Hickory Crawdads (28-25) broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the seventh inning en route to a 5-3 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds (29-25) on Thursday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

The Shorebirds sprinted on the board in the first inning. Mikey Planeta hit a triple off the base of the right field wall. Then, Ty Kelly hit a grounder towards the hole on the left side of the infield to score Planeta from third.

The Crawdads responded with two runs in the third. Jhonny Gomez reached on a leadoff walk. Then, on a single by Alejandro Selen and an overthrow to third by Brenden Webb, Gomez came around to score. With Selen at third, Jonathan Roof hit a sacrifice fly to right to give the Crawdads a 2-1 lead.

The Shorebirds tied the score in the fifth inning. Justin Dalles was hit by a pitch to open the inning. Then, Mychal Givens singled to right field to advance Dalles to third. Brenden Webb then hit a grounder to second to score Dalles.

The Crawdads broke the tie with three runs in the seventh inning. Jurickson Profar capped the inning with a two-run triple to the right field corner to increase the lead to 5-2.

The Shorebirds tallied a run in the eighth inning courtesy of an RBI groundout by Kieron Pope to cut the deficit to 5-3.

Ryan Rodebaugh closed the book on the Shorebirds in the final two innings to earn his sixth save of the season. Hickory starter Nick Tepesch picked up the win in 6.1 innings pitched. He allowed five hits and two runs.

Shorebirds starter Jacob Pettit was pinned with the loss over 6.1 innings.
