
Intimidators Overcome Gnats 7-4 Thursday

SAVANNAH, GA - The Kannpolis Intimidators used a pair of multi-run innings to beat the Savannah Sand Gnats 7-4 at Historic Grayson Stadium Thursday night. The loss snapped the Gnats' four-game winning streak.
Savannah starter Yohan Almonte began the game with three perfect innings that included three strikeouts.
Almonte departed in favor of Ryan Fraser to begin the fourth inning. Fraser struck out the side in the fourth, but ran into trouble in the next two innings. The Intimidators (28-24) scored a run in the fifth inning on an RBI single from RF John Spatola to grab a 1-0 lead. Kannapolis then scored four times in the sixth to establish a 5-0 lead. Fraser walked the first three hitters in the inning, all of whom scored. The big hits in the inning were a two-run bases-loaded single from Intimidators' 2B Drew Leeand RBI double by DH Kenny Gilbert.
The Gnats (29-24) rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth. RF Cory Vaughn and C Blake Forsythe each had RBI triples in the frame. Savannah had the tying run at second base in the sixth and seventh innings, but could not get the tying run across.
The Intimidators added a pair of insurance runs against reliever Todd Weldon in the eighth.
The Gnats will hand the ball to LHP Chase Huchingson (2-2, 2.40) against Kannapolis RHP Dexter Carter (0-1, 6.23) Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm and gates open at 6 pm. The pre-game show on News/Talk 630 and sandgnats.com begins at 6:50 pm.
