Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
Charleston, WV - The Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout will take place in Charleston, WV on Monday, June 13, 2011 at Appalachian Power Park, home of the West Virginia Power, a Class A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. All high school athletes ages 14-18 are encouraged to attend. Players are asked to report to the field at noon for registration, and the tryout is scheduled to begin at 1 pm. The registration fee is $129. Please contact Baseball Factory to enroll at 800.641.4487 x 101. Top players from the tryout may be selected for one of the following national teams or events: the Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament, the Baseball Factory Select Training at Vero Beach, and the Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City.
Many highly touted prospects have come through Baseball Factory's program including Texas native Jameson Taillon. In 2007, Taillon attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout event where his performance earned him a selection to the 2009 Under Armour All-America Game, powered by Baseball Factory. Held at historic Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, the game showcases the top 36 rising high school seniors and juniors from across the country. After completing his senior year, the right-handed pitcher was selected #2 overall in the 2010 draft. Taillon is currently in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization playing for the West Virginia Power.
Many talented local college players have come through Baseball Factory's program as well, including current West Virginia University player Chris Rasky and current Marshall University player Kenny Socorro. In 2006, Chris Rasky, primarily an outfielder, attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout event in Erie, PA. His performance earned him a selection in the 2006 Team One Midwest Showcase. Also in 2006, Kenny Socorro, primarily a shortstop, attended an Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout event in his hometown of Miami, FL. His impressive showing earned him a selection to the 2006 Team One South Showcase. Team One Baseball has seen over 260 players go onto the Major Leagues since its inception in 1992. Rasky graduated from high school in 2008 and Socorro graduated in 2007. Since then, both players have continued their academic and baseball success at top universities in the state of West Virginia.
Baseball Factory's staff of professional scouts, former professional players and former college coaches will evaluate players on the field and lead a college recruiting question and answer session. Those in attendance will learn about the college recruiting process and the steps players should take in order to increase their chances of playing college baseball and receiving scholarships.
Since 1994, Baseball Factory has helped over 30,000 high school players reach their dream of playing college baseball. In addition, over 2,500 players have been drafted and 260 have gone on to play in the majors. Baseball Factory and Under Armour conduct over 150 tryouts a year throughout the country.
