Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Asheville, NC - The Augusta GreenJackets scored twice in the ninth inning, but Carlos Willoughby struck out looking with two men on base to end the game as the Asheville Tourists held on for a 4-3 win on Thursday night. The loss ends Augusta's three-game winning streak, tied for the team's longest such streak this season.

After being held to just three hits through the first seven innings, the GreenJackets got four singles in the ninth. They loaded the bases with three consecutive hits with one out before Jeff Arnold struck out on a called third strike for the second out of the ninth. Ehire Adrianza knocked a base hit through the right side to bring home two runs and cut Asheville's lead to one before Juan Perez struck out Willoughby to preserve the win for the Tourists and earn his 11th save of the season.

Early on, the game was a pitchers' duel between Taylor Rogers and Edwar Cabrera. Both teams were held scoreless until the fifth when Arnold unloaded for his third home run of the year to give the GreenJackets a 1-0 edge.

The lead was short-lived as the Tourists got a pair in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. Avery Barnes doubled to lead off the inning and took third on the first of two Rogers wild pitches in the frame. Mark Tracy grounded out to score Barnes and tie the game at one. Russell Wilson was hit by a pitch and then moved to third on a errant pickoff toss to first by Rogers - his second error in that fashion in the game. The second Rogers wild pitch in the inning scored Wilson to hand the Tourists a 2-1 edge.

With two outs in the sixth, a Rogers walk put a man on base for Chandler Laurent. Laurent then drilled a two-out, two-run homer to push the lead to three runs at 4-1.

Rogers (4-6) allowed four runs - three earned - on six hits and two walks, striking out five. He saw his three-game winning streak come to an end with the loss. Cabrera (4-1) turned in one of his best outings of the year for the Tourists, allowing a run on three hits while striking out 11 - one shy of a career-best. The 11 punchouts bring Cabrera's MiLB-leading total on the season to 96.

The GreenJackets will look to rebound on Friday, sending Mike Kickham (1-2, 3.00) to the mound in the road trip's penultimate game to face Asheville's Albert Campos (2-4, 6.70). First pitch from Asheville will come at 7:05 with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50, airing online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .

The GreenJackets return home on Sunday June 4th to open a three-game series with the Charleston RiverDogs. First pitch is at 5:35 and gates will open at 4:30 next Sunday.
