POWER REPLAY: West Virginia dropped a 5-4 series finale at Charleston last night. The Power held a 1-0 lead after one half inning, but trailed 5-1 going into the ninth. Zack Dodson took the loss after surrendering three runs on seven hits over five and two-thirds. Gift Ngoepe had three of West Virginia's five base hits and Andy Vasquez drove in a pair of runs.

LET'S INTIMIDATE THEM: West Virginia opens a series against Kannapolis tonight. The Power were swept in a five game series at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium during their first road trip of the season, including back-to-back walk off losses during a doubleheader on April 23. Kannapolis leads the all-time series 38-29, and have an 18-15 Appalachian Power Park.

ROAD TRIP RECAP: West Virginia split their recent road trip by losing the first two games, winning the next four, and falling in the final two. The Power hit .284 during the eight-game stint with 77 hits over 271 at bats. The pitching staff struggled with the long ball, allowing eight total and five over the last two games.

NOT A GOOD START TO THE WEEKEND: West Virginia is a combined 0-8 in games played on a Thursday or Friday. The Power hold a 15-9 record over the rest of the days of the week combined, including a 7-2 mark on Saturdays and Sundays (combined).

SPEED THRILLS: Power base runners stole a season-high four bags Wednesday night. West Virginia has stolen 33 bases this season, seventh most in the SAL, but had never stolen more than two bases in any game this year. No player has stolen more than one base in any one game this year.

FOURTH TIME THROUGH: Jameson Taillon will make his fourth professional start this evening. The right-hander was not on the Power roster when West Virginia played in Kannapolis back in April. Taillon was selected second overall by Pittsburgh during the 2010 first year player draft.

STOPPED AT SIX: Kawikia Emsley-Pai saw his six game hitting streak snapped with an 0-2 performance last night. The streak matched Matt Curry and Justin Howard for the longest consecutive hitting runs of the season for West Virginia. The Power catcher batted .455 during his six-game streak.

SERIES STARTING STRUGGLES: West Virginia notched a rare series opening win on Monday night at Charleston. The Power lost their first five openers prior to a 5-2 win on April 30 against Greensboro and dropped the opener of this road trip 7-6 at Augusta before winning Monday. West Virginia is 2-6 during the first game of the eight series they have played this season.

POWER POINTS: The Power have won three straight at Appalachian Power Park... West Virginia hitters knocked 16 base hits in Wednesday's loss, the most in any game this season... The Power will open a four-game homestand against Kannapolis tonight at Appalachian Power Park. West Virginia will wear special charity jerseys to be auctioned off to raise money for Relay for Life.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers was postponed due to rain. The Pirates open a three-game series at Milwaukee tonight at 8:10pm... Indianapolis staved off a late Durham rally for a 9-6 win... Altoona scored six in the sixth to beat Erie 7-2... Bradenton beat Tampa 6-2 backed by a 12 hit attack.

ON THE AIR: All 140 West Virginia Power games can be heard on ESPN 104.5 FM and 1490 AM in Charleston, WV, across the state on the Power Radio Network, and online at milb.com. Adam Marco will call the action for each of the 70 home games this season, while the home team will provide coverage while the Power are on the road.
