Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Hickory, NC - The Augusta GreenJackets scored four runs with two outs in the ninth inning to break out of a 4-4 tie and earn an 8-4 win in their series opener with the Hickory Crawdads on Friday night. It was the seventh straight time the GreenJackets have won a series opener.
Ryan Scoma drew a bases loaded walk in the ninth to break the tie before Drew Biery did the real damage, unloading the bases with a three-run double to push a one-run lead to a four-run Augusta advantage in the ninth inning.
Stephen Harrold (3-1), who lost the chance at the save in the eighth inning, worked a 1-2-3 ninth to get the win, allowing a hit in 1.1 scoreless innings.
The GreenJackets scored seven of their eight runs in the game with two outs in the respective inning, jumping out to an early lead on Adam Duvall's three-run home run in the third inning - his seventh of the season and third this week. In the fourth, Rafael Rodriguez's RBI single brought home another run to push the lead to 4-0.
Hickory got a run in the bottom of the fourth on a Tomas Telis RBI single but really began their comeback in earnest in the seventh inning. Jhonny Gomez's run-scoring single - the third of three consecutive Hickory hits - cut the Augusta lead to 4-2. In the eighth, a walk and double put runners at second and third with no one out. A Telis RBI groundout cut the lead to one while Josh Richmond's two-out RBI single tied things at four.
Andres Perez-Lobo (0-2) took the loss for the Crawdads, allowing two runs on three walks in 1.2 innings.
In his GreenJackets debut, lefty Mike Kickham fired four solid innings of three-hit ball, allowing only an unearned run and striking out five.
The GreenJackets will send Seth Rosin (0-2, 4.62) to the mound in search of a second straight win. Hickory will counter with fellow righty Carlos Melo (2-3, 8.00). First pitch will come at 7:05 with the pregame action beginning at 6:50, airing on WRDW AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com. The GreenJackets return home on Tuesday for the opener of a three-game series with the Greenville Drive at 7:05 p.m. as the GreenJackets close in on their one-millionth fan under Ripken Baseball ownership. That lucky fan will win a trip for four to Disneyworld, courtesy of Augusta Vascular Center
