
Power Earn Split with 11-2 Victory

(Charleston, WV): The West Virginia Power defeated the Hagerstown Suns 11-2 Sunday afternoon. The Power had six hits with runners in scoring position to help split the four-game series.
The Power scored three times in the third inning. Ashley Ponce hit an RBI single that scored Walker Gourley. Josh Bell followed with an RBI double to right that scored Max Moroff, with Ponce advancing to third. With one out, Ponce scored on an RBI sacrifice fly by Eric Wood.
Hagerstown cut the Power lead to 3-2 after Wander Ramos hit a two-run home run in the fourth.
Bell hit his second home run this season to lead off the fifth inning. The next three batters all reached base and Raul Fortunato grounded into a double-play, scoring Stetson Allie and the Power lead was 5-2.
The Power scored five more runs in the sixth inning by sending 11 batters to the plate. Bell hit another single that drove in two, giving him his fourth RBI of the afternoon. Barrett Barnes hit a two-RBI double scoring Bell and Wood, and Walker Gourley hit an RBI single, scoring Barnes.
West Virginia added their final run in the eighth when Francisco Diaz hit a single to left, advanced to third on a Gourley double, then scored on a wild pitch.
Orlando Castro (2-1) earned his second win this season by tossing five innings of two-run ball. Brian Dupra received the loss by allowing five runs. The Power relievers combined for four innings of two hit ball, shutout baseball.
West Virginia begins a seven-game road trip Tuesday evening against the Charleston RiverDogs. John Kuchno will start for the Power against Gabe Encinas. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 in Charleston.
West Virginia will return home Wednesday May 1st for a seven-game home stand, playing three games against the Greensboro Grasshoppers and four games against the Greenville Drive.
