Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws (5-13) plated four runs over the first three innings and took home the series finale 5-3 over the Savannah Sand Gnats (9-7), Sunday afternoon at FirstEnergy Park. The win clinched a series split for Lakewood and marked the first time the BlueClaws did not lose a series.
After a scoreless first, it was the BlueClaws that jumped out in front with two runs in the second frame. With two on and one out, Carlos Tocci ripped a double to right and plated two runs. Tocci was credited with one RBI as, Brian Pointer scored from first on the play via an error by the right fielder Eudy Pina.
The BlueClaws were back at it in the third against Savannah starter, Logan Taylor. Art Charles got his second look at Taylor (0-1) in the third and doubled to right field with two on and one out. Angelo Mora and Larry Greene, Jr. scored on the play and upped the lead to 4-0 for the BlueClaws.
On the mound for Lakewood it was Shane Watson making his fourth start of the season and his second at home. Watson (1-1) earned the first win in his professional career with five scoreless innings of one-hit ball. The righty walked three and struck out two in his outing.
Savannah plated a run in the sixth on a wild pitch by Zach Cooper and a run in the eighth off of Steven Inch and trailed 5-2 heading to the ninth.
Inch worked himself into a bases loaded, one out jam in the final frame, but escaped with just one run allowed on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Brandon Nimmo. Inch regrouped and induced a weak lineout to second from Jayce Boyd to end the ballgame.
