Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA - The Rome Braves concluded their four game series with the Asheville Tourists Sunday afternoon in front of 3,043 spectators. The Tourists defeated the Braves 6-2 to hand Rome their third straight loss.
Asheville scored the first run of the afternoon in the fourth inning with a home run off the bat of Derek Jones (3) to make the score 1-0. The Tourists struck again in the sixth off of a throwing error to second by catcher Nick DeSantiago allowing Jose Rivera to score. After stealing second Francisco Sosa scored the second run in the inning off an RBI single by Matt Wessinger giving Asheville the 3-0 lead.
The Braves answered back in the bottom of the sixth when Ronald Luna reached base on a throwing error by third baseman Wessinger and later scored on ground out by Josh Elander to make the score 3-1. That's as close as Rome would get as Asheville went on to win the game 6-2.
Rome's Mauricio Cabrera (1-2) was tagged with his second loss of the season while the Tourists starter Benjamin Hughes (2-2) was awarded his second win.
The Braves next home game will be May 1st at 7pm as they take on the Greenville Drive. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
